Ordering gifts

I have dear friend out of state that are celebrating their anniversary on a cruise. I wanted to order them a bottle of champagne at dinner for the special occassion but when I called the cruise line they told me I had to have their booking number. Now, does anybody know a way around providing this gift without having to clue in my friends? If I ask them they are sure to know what's up and it defeats the purpose if it isn't a suprise. HELP!!!!

maybe you can ask your friends who their travel agent is, which is not such an unusual (read: alarming) question, in my opinion. You could then get in touch with their TA and have the gift booked. It would not even be necessary for the TA to tell you your friends' booking number if he/she considers that a confidential information.

I don't know if this would work, however. What do our TA members think?

I would certainly be willing to do that if some clients' friends asked me. I don't know that I would give out the booking number, but would be willing to handle the gift order for them.

Gee, thanks for all the respones. But, I guess I should have mentioned that they did not use a travel agent, but booked directly with the cruise line. (I know, just one more reason that you should use a travel agent - but just to set the record straight - I always use a travel agent and can't be held responsible for the actions of my friends ). So, anyway, they are in a guaranteed stateroom and without the booking number the cruise line told me there was no way they could help me. Any other suggestions - or should I just plan a different kind of surprise? Thanks again for all of your comments.

Suzi, that does put a whole new light on your dilemma. Since the cruise lines is not willing to assist you - I would suggest you find a different way to "surprise" your friends.
