has anyone driven to cape liberty bayonne nj. what did you do with your car. i was told the best thing to park at airport and pay a shuttle ride in. any other suggestions.

Hi Jo ann
We parked at Port Liberty last year, and will be going again 3 weeks from today http://bestsmileys.com/happy/7.gif
we had no problems. In fact we could see our car from the ship we were so close.
I think it was 19 dollars a day. You unload your car, check your bags and then pay in advance, lock your car an hop on the ship.
No need to pay the extra cab fare from the airport.

A ride to and from the airport will cost the same...pay the $19 a day and forget about it.

I forgot to mention that some folks like to stay at a hotel the night before. many have park and cruise deals and will shuttle you to the port.

i am hearing about people getting paint sprays on their cars

There was an article posted in USA Today Cruise log on Nov 16th :
The news outlet says Bayonne Drydock and Repair Corporation, located adjacent to the Cape Liberty cruise terminal, is renovating a U.S. Navy ship and is responsible for the overspray of paints and chemicals damaging vehicles entering the port. The news outlet says the overspray also is contaminating the local waterway.
I would have to think and believe that has been taken care of. I have parked there in the past and had no proble and need to park there again in May. It really is not my favorite Port but it is close and beats flying in. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...n_rolleyes.gif

Great minds think alike. I was just looking up the date on that article when your post popped up. Not to be a lecturing anyone on how to live...but I guess everything we do had an inherent risk to it. I seems unlikelt that a company would let a problem like this go unresolved for months. We're taking out chances. Because we're aware of it, we will inspect the exterior before we leave the port.

Thanks Poormom,
I know I'm not going to worry and will check my car too before we leave. Only 18 more days have a wonderful time ! http://bestsmileys.com/waving/7.gif

If you are thinking of do the express check out...look for a space close to the baggage area. We've had great luck finding a spot and it saves a world of luggage hauling. We were in the car and headed home by 8:45.
Last year we did the standard check out and didn't make it off the ship until after 11 which was frustrating because we could see the car from the ship! And when you get off, you have to then go hunt down your bags and haul them anyway!
Have a great trip.
