We have never cruised from Miami, and I have two cruises scheduled to leave from there this year. . . .

Have any of you flown into either Ft. Lauderdale or West Palm Bch and to leave from Miami? Flights from Nashville to those airports are quite a bit less expensive than those to Miami, so we're considering flying there. Yes, I know that we're going to have either a taxi or shuttle cost involved, but at this point, it's still less. I'm just wondering if time is going to be a huge issue.

Thanks!!

Being from Ohio, I often fly into Fort Lauderdale for a cruise from Miami. Not only is it cheaper, but I much prefer the Fort Lauderdale airport - much less confusion and congestion than at Miami. There is only a minimal cost difference getting to the port from there. Tri-county airport express has continuous shared ride shuttle service to the Port of Miami for $18 pp and a taxi to the port will run about $60. West Palm is a little further north and ground transportation would be more.

Thank you, Nancy! I figured that Ft. Lauderdale would be fine. In addition to really liking Southwest Airlines, I hate Miami International Airport. My big concern was transportation to and from Port of Miami, although most airports have Super Shuttle or something similar.

BTW. . .We're from NE Ohio, and I have cousins who live in Wickliffe!

Chris, how amazing! Wickliffe is really a small community - so that really does attest to the fact that this is indeed a "small world". Send me a private message with their names or where they live. Being a lifelong resident, perhaps I know them.

Nancy, I sent you a PM. . .At least I think I did!!!

I have never used it but I have heard that Carnival has a free shuttle from the Miami airport.

Cruise Specialist 05-30-2006 07:49 AM

Larry, its not exactly a "free" shuttle to the Carnival ships, Carnival actually includes in the price of the airline ticket if you buy from them the transfers from airport to ship and back. In fact all the cruiselines offer this.

Hey mooneydiva, this is Bill and as a native South Floridian, AVOID Miami airport all cost!! It sucks!! If I were you, I would fly into Ft. Lauderdale and take "Super Shuttle" down. Ft. Lauderdale is a lot easier to get around, and besides, how's your Spanish?? Heck, I'll even come pick you up to save some bucks for ya. LOL!! West Palm beach is way too far. Not a good option.
Hope this helps, have a great day and let me know if I may assist in any way.

MIA is a mess, but it isn't too bad when you use a limo service for pickup and return. We are flying in to MIA this Saturday for the inaugural cruise (well, inaugural cruise where the pax are paying for their cruise) for the Freedom Of The Seas.

I probably should stop being so lazy and simply drive to Birmingham or Nashville and take Southwest to FLL for all cruises out of Miami or Port Everglades. As noted, FLL is a much more friendly airport. But HSV (Huntsville Alabama) is just a 15 minute drive from my front door and is REAL user friendly. To me it is worth the cost.

mooneydiva 05-31-2006 07:24 PM

Bill, thanks for verifying what I thought. I am not totally against MIA, but I do prefer Southwest Airlines and their lower fares. I figured we could get a shuttle down there. I'm going to ask another question via a new post.

BTW. . .You don't have relatives in Ohio, did you?

And, Dave! Nashville is only about 22.5 hours (depending on who's driving) from Huntsville!! I have a lot of customers from Huntsville who stop by hen they drive up here for Southwest flights! Come one! We could meet you for a drink!

Seriously, the drive up for your outbound flight would be okay. However, I know that after a wonderful week on a cruise ship, I wouldn't want to have to fly a few hours and then drive 2-3 more!

So, how long do I have until these two cruises?
