Can you please share your experiences with smoking on various cruise lines? I am allergic and very sensitive to cigarette smoke. We loved the Carnival Paradise (non-smoking ship), but are looking to try Royal Caribbean, Celebrity or Norwegian next time out.

If you are a smoker, which lines did you find to be the most restrictive? If you are a non-smoker, which lines bothered you the most and why?

I would also like to hear about the areas on whichever ship you traveled on where smoking is allowed or disallowed. All help would be appreciated, and I hope I don't offend any smokers. Thanks.

i've been on carnival fascination - and for the most part, you could smoke anywhere - i don't recall smoking in the "show" area or in the dining rooms - but the bars and casinos were smokey - and of course, most places outside -

hope that helps!

Hi..
I smoke sometimes (only when drinking). Celebrity does not allow smoking in the main dining room or during the shows. You can smoke in certain areas of the bar, but as well as I can remember there is a non-smoking area also. I know smoking is allowed in the pool area but you can move away easily if someone smokes there.
Most people that I know ask if it is okay before they light up around somebody, but I know there are some people who don't care.
Hope this helps some & I would try Celebrity, it's simply wonderful!!

Smokey Joe...that was very rude of you! They were only trying to get both sides of the story from smokers/non-smokers. No need to shun someone.

We just finished a cruise on NCL to Scandanavia and boy, did they smoke! We were not expecting it and didn't care for it. Live and learn! We will definitely double-check that before the next cruise. Good luck with your search!

I sympathize with you. As non-smokers, we are very sensitive to smoke, and avoid being around smokers if we can. I think most of the lines have no smoking areas as far as the dining rooms and public rooms are concerned.

Two things to be careful of: 1) - If you have a balcony, be aware that smoke will travel and your cabin neighbors right next to you may smoke. We really suffered on one cruise - it seemed the smoke always came right toward us. And, what can you do? People are allowed to smoke on their balconies.... 2) Try to get a sense of how many Europeans or Japanese may be on the cruise you are contemplating. Unfortunately, many people of those nationalities have not gotton the message about smoke, and smoke they do - lots!

I am a smoker and most cruises I have been on have been somewhat restrictive. No smoking in the main dining whatsoever, one side of the ship is non smoking the other smoking. I must say that I try to be a considerate smoker and stay on my side of the ship. I am concerned about our balcony in Oct. I am mid ship and I do not want to bother my neighbor so I will check to see if they are on their balcony, if so, I will smoke inside the cabin. I understand there is only one non smoking ship, the Paradise, and so there are not many itineraries for non smokers to choose from. Hope this helps and hope you have a wonderful cruise

Deb, just wanted to thank you for being a considerate smoker. We don't smoke, and second hand smoke really bothers us. On two cruises where we had a balcony, we had smokers next to us and the smoke drifted always in our direction, making it unpleasant to sit out there. I didn't feel I could ask them not to smoke in their own cabin! (On one cruise our neighbors also laughed and talked loudly on their balcony at 6:00 a.m. - but thats another story.) Again, Icommend you on your thoughtfulness....
