does anyone know if prescription motion sickness medications can be taken while pregnant? the one we have previously been prescribed is scopolamine

are certain drugs better for pregnant women that we can ask our doctor about?

i know that there are tons of other, drug-free solutions (apples, ginger, bands, crackers, etc.), but they dont work for her and she will be very stressed out if we don't at least have a drug available, if needed

of course we will confirm any decision we make with the doctor

thanks

Mike,

With the exception of a couple members who are medical professionals, nobody here can answer your questions. And I doubt Marsha or PA Steve would offer advice without knowing the medical profile of the pregnant woman.

i understand that no can tell me that a certain drug will def be ok for her

im more interested if there are others who have succesfully taken a drug while pregnant, so i know they at least exist and can ask my doctor about them

im not sure if all seasickness drugs are bad for pregnancy, or some are available that might be ok

I was very careful not to take ANY drugs during all my pregnancies, not even Tylenol, unless I felt like I was at death's door.

Let me repeat what Dave said: only your doctor can answer your questions. You're taking a chance if you take any advice that does not come directly from your OB.

It looks like you've cruised before. If she's really bothered by seasickness and none of the holistic methods worked, maybe you can get a note from your doctor to reschedule your cruise (if you have insurance)
It would be a shame if she was sick and stressed out yhe whole time.
There will be cruise ships around after the little one comes.

no baby on the way yet...we just want to cruise in january and its possible that pregnancy will occur before then...though we strongly prefer a cruise, a land based vacation may be in order....thats just sad because it will prob be tough to take a cruise (or any real vacation for that matter) for while after a kid

we def plan on talking to the dr either way

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that I went on a cruise when I was on my third trimester of pregnancy. Most cruise lines don't allow you to go when you are that far along, but Celebrity did. Anyway, I didn't need to take anything, as I did not get seasick at all. I did have to take naps, though, since I got overly tired easily. I recommend that you travel during the second trimester. That is when most women feel the best. Less morning sickness, and not too big yet. Good luck.

For anyone's information, Celebrity's current policy on pregnancy doesn't allow anyone who has entered their 24th week of pregnancy, or will enter their 24th week during a cruise. Most other cruise lines also follow this same policy.

Hi,

I didn't mean that currently Celebrity has that policy. This was 12 years ago that I took a cruise when I was pregnant.

No problem, I was only providing the current to avoid any confusion.
