I know this question has probably been done to death but me and three friends are from Ireland(we are all 19/20 years old) and we want to go on a cruise from Los angeles to somewhere like mexico.
I would like to know what cruise lines allow 18 and above to drink and gamble? we are not rowdy guys but we would just like at night times to kick back and relax with a few beers?
Your bigger issue will be booking a cruise. Most cruise lines won't let someone under 21 book a cabin.
For most of the larger cruise lines, the gambling age is 18. Most have a drinking age of 21 but some like NCL and RCCL allow parents sign a waiver to allow 18 to 20 year olds drink. But again the parent would need to be sailing with you.

RCI changed their policy for U.S. sailings and no age waivers are allowed anymore. They will allow them for European and South American sailings - again with parent or guardian being on the ship too.
The thing with Los Angeles is only Carnival and Royal Caribbean sail from there. Both have gambling ages of 18 and alcohol ages of 21.
Oops, my bad. I read the age guidelines on their site and saw the age wavier information but failed to see that it was for European and South American cruise only. Dave is correct.

Why thank you for saying so. Welcome to cruise chat by the way!
The drinking age limits were put in place because people were abusing the rules. Carnival was the first to change to 21 because so many college age people were cruising and drinking that it gave them a bad image of being loud party ships (an image they are still working to get rid of). The US has a 21 year old drinking age, so that is the reason for that being the age on the cruise ships.

Hi Dee444, Welome to cruise-chat! You may get some comfort in knowing that you can kick back at the ports of call in Mexico with a few beers. The drinking age will be 18 at the ports, just none onboard the ship. Have a great cruise!
