Transportation to excursions

First time cruiser, so please bear with me if this sounds like a stupid question.
What happens on a day when the ship arrives in a scheduled port? For example: we have an excursion booked for Ketchikan. We did this on the Princess site. Will there be someone designated to take us to the excursion? Do we have to see about arranging transportation prior to disembarking? Same goes for returning to the ship????

If you book with the ship you will usually meet in the lounge and then be escorted to the bus for the tour.

If you do an independant tour then when you get off you will look for the tour guide you have engaged...usually outside the secure area but check with the tour guide.

Yes. Your shore excursion ticket will tell you where to meet, either in one of the lounges or on the pier, and what time to be there. Show up at the right place at the right time and the rest is taken care of.
