embarkation

Here's a little one for you:

In September we sail to Alaska out of Vancouver. Once we have completed the embarkation process, are we allowed to leave the ship or is it like at the airport where once you have cleared customs you have to stay put? We will likely have family members there to see us off and I understand they are not allowed on the ship, as in the "old" days.

Don't know how it will be different for your cruise..but with ours (not alaska) No one got further than the front door but those with tickets. you went through a few document checks in the terminal and then come out ON the ship. I was surprised that leaving wasn't more of a big deal... but we were shuffled off to the life boat drill right up until we left and never even realized we had left. we got on at 1:30 and didn't leave till after 5.

Rose,
You will be able to come and go as you please (just make sure you have your sail and sign card with you), but your family will NOT be allowed to board the ship.

Yes, I knew they couldn't come aboard but it is good to know I can go off if need be. But gosh, I'm counting on at least a bit of a send-off. Lifeboats may have to wait (

) 'cause I'm not going to miss seeing the underside of the Lions Gate Bridge!! The fam may line up on Ambleside Beach to wave madly at us as well ----- as you can see, this really is a big deal for us!!

Hi Rose,

that sounds great, your family standing on the bridge and waving to you, this is really a big deal for you and your first cruise.

I´m so jealous. Hey, you are going to Alaska, living in British Columbia.

And me. Living in a boring german city, going to the Netherlands for two weeks. Have to work in my vacations and hoping to get a special offer for another cruise this year.

Maybe next year for you, Marita.

Holland is not a bad place to be either, you know! It's a case of the grass being greener, I think. I would LOVE to revisit Holland. So I say too, maybe next year ....
