Hello!

Haven't cruised on RCI since 2000 on the Monarch...going on the Serenade of the Seas Feb. 12-19 and was wondering if you can buy liquor at the on board store and bring it back to the room. Can't recall if they allowed that on Monarch, but thought they did. Anybody know? Thanks !!

Hello. We were on Explored last june. The first or second night we bought 2 bottles of vodka, the smirnoff flavored ones. I forget how much they were, I think $8 or 10 a bottle. There was an extra fee, not sure if it was the "uncorking fee" or whatever it was called. The fee was like $5 bucks or so. To compensate for the fee, they were giving away a free bottle of cheaper quality vodka for free, to compensate for the extra fee. This offer was only available that night. I'm pretty sure the total was $20 for the 3 bottles. We figured $20 would buy us about 4 drinks, so we were actually saving money. You were allowed to take the bottles to your cabin. I had one of the RCI soda card "drink bottles" that they refill when you use the card. I would give them my soda card and bottle, fill it up with sprite, go back to my room and add the vodka. Sure, it involved some running back and forth to the room for a drink, but I sure saved ALOT of money. I am not a huge drinker anyways, so a drink would last quite awhile with me. I figured I burned extra calories going back and forth to the room, and saved alot of $ making my own drinks. Have fun, Lori

On my last two Royal Caribbean cruises, the "consumption fee" that is charged to take liquor bought onboard back to your cabin varied. On one it was $9.50 per bottle. On another ship they had a first night special - charging just one $9.50 "consumption fee" no matter how many bottles were purchased that night. After that it was $9.50 per bottle. I would read the Daily Compass or check at the liquor store after sailing on the first night to see if any special is offered.
