Unfortunately, with gas prices inching up towards $4 a gallon by summer, it's highly doubtful cruise prices are going to be crashing anytime soon.

Alaskan cruises are still premium routes. You won't see the price cuts there like you get in the Caribbean where it is oversold with cruiseships. Most of the time for Alaska, you will have a heard time finding availability on a ship if you wait until 2 or 3 months before you wish to go.

That's right Jim. Also considering the fact that the Alaska cruise season is considerably shorter than the Caribbean should keep prices up.

What I meant is when will the bborchure rates go down? They are now below brochure rates for this summer, when will this happen for next summer?

Oceanview June 10th 2007, $600
Oceanview 2007- $1,049

Seldom will anyone pay the price printed in a brochure. Booking early 6-9 months out will get you early booking discounts.

Every year Alaska becomes more popular. The season is short, May to September. You can't really extend the season because it's popular, the weather won't let you. they are at or close to capacity at the existing ports for ships. As a result the pricing year to year is expected to continue to climb. This year to add to the other cost surge, taxes went up by $50. per person. The Alaska legislature passed a new tax on all cruisers coming into the state. Prices didn't drop because of the tax and people didn't stop traveling to Alaska. Look out, the Alaska Legislature may find they've stumbled onto a revenue source they can continue to tap. Have you ever known of a government that believed they collected too much tax or even enough tax.

You are so right! They will continue to raise taxes or find new ones until it starts to cut into the cruise lines bottom line. The lines might even try to absord some of the increase; but their margin is so thin, they can't do it for long. Only when the number of passengers starts to fall will they rezlize they went too far--maybe not even then.
