Air fare for spring break cruise

Hi, has anybody here cruised on spring break with your kids? How far ahead should you book your airline tickets? And when is a good time to book? Our cruise is not until 2009, and we'll flying to Ft. Lauderdale from Denver. I checked on the air fare for spring break 2008, just to get the idea to see how much it cost to fly at spring break time, and the prices shown really scared me. Any suggestions? Thank you! - Tanya

I doubt you can even book air for 2009 yet. Even if you can I wouldn't do it. I usually don't do my air until 3-6 months from the cruise date.

You can generally start booking air around 330 days out, which would be around late April 2008, in your case. Check every so often, and when you find a price you like, book it before it disappears.

Spring Break time is one time you might also want to compare getting the cruise lines air. The cruise line air will include the cost of transfers.

Book your airfare the SECOND that you can. In fact, if the leaving leg of the trip becomes available, book that and then book the return when that one comes available.

We did that for our Toronto-Ft. Lauderdale for next March break. Within 2 weeks of booking that price had doubled! I was so glad I had booked.

Can someone tell me when the spring break is for the United States in 2008. We have booked a cruise for the 13th of April and hope that we won't be overrun with kids.

That is not a cut-and-dried answer since school systems in the U.S. have myriad schedules. Some are in March, some are in April, some don't have a spring break. But for the most part you shouldn't be overrun, at least as compared to June or July when us families hit the seas.

bearing in mind that I'm from the uk and won't have anywhere near the knowledge of you guys...do you have to fly from denver ? another main airport is only 60 odd miles away called Colerado Springs and you may get a different low cost airline flying from there instead of denver.....just a thought ....hope things work out for you.

Hi Jack 2007, we have to fly out from Denver, because the Colorado Springs Airport is too far from my house, I think it is almost two hours away, the Denver International Airport however, is only 40 minutes away. Thank you for the suggestion though! .
