Just an FYI for families planning cruises. When booking last minute specials you often see very attractive rates. If you need cabins for more than 2 pax per cabin, don't wait until the last minute to book. This is especially true for peak season (anytime kids are out of school). Most cruiselines have very limited cabins for triple or quad occupancy, Carnival is the exception. Many of the last minute promos are based on what is called "Guarantee Status", the only cruiseline that allows a guarantee to be booked for more than 2 pax is Carnival. That means those low rates you see are unavailable to you anyway. Many times the promo is not on guar status but the low priced cabins are gone. You're forced into higher cost categories in order to find cabins at all. One last thing most people don't realize is the discounts for third and forth occ's shrink with availability. Booking early often you'll find the rates for 3rd and 4th much lower than if you wait and those cabins become rare.
Waiting for last minute promotions works well on some sailings if you need only 2 to a cabin. Even that doesn't always work, some sailings climb in price for all cabins the closer you get to the sailing date. But if you need multiple occ cabins waiting will in most cases cost you more and may not be available at all on many ships.
