Med Cruise Wave.

This is a big wave. My Son is doing a cruise over there next July, hope this does not happen much

It doesn't. I was just in the Mediterranean in December. Very smooth sailing. The experts said something like a Rogue wave might happen every 26 weeks (twice a year).

last week when there was a tsumnami (sp) warning I was wondering how the cruise ships react to the warning...anyone know

Twice a year? Way too often for me...I guess what are the chances that my ship would be hit by one is very small.
It would never keep me from cruising. I guess we could all begin to worry that with the frequency of earth quakes lately that we could also be in the path of a tsunami, however I think that any cruise line would get a warning and look for a safe postion if thats possible.

Tsunami energy is underwater and not really noticeable to ships at sea. It might cause a ripple but often nothing at all will be noticed. Tsunami destruction happens when a land mass with shallow water gets in the way. This is why Diego Garcia had no damage in the 2004 tsunami. It has no shallow shore line.

This is also why ships leave port if a tsunami warning is issued. All the destruction happens by the shorelines, not in open water.

Rogue waves and tsunami are two different things. For perspective on rogue waves and cruise ships, a Cunard ship (I think it was the QE2) was hit by a rogue wave 3 to 4 times as high as the recent one and had little or no damage and injuries.

That ship used to be the Norwegian Majesty until it was sold last year. It was the last ship we were on, in a room right above that lounge.
