Has anyone ever had any luck booking a "guarantee" cabin? What kind of an upgrade (if any) did you get? My TA said I may get a two catagory upgrade. I Just wonder if anyone had had any luck....

We booked the Carnival Triumph for this past October at a 6A guaranteed OceanView we were upgraded to a 6E on the spa deck. Went from a picture window to one full wall of window.
Everytime we have booked guarantee we have been upgraded. When we booked on Fantasy a couple of years ago, again 6A guar. upgraded to 6D midship.
Last year last minute we booked HAL Zuiderdam guaranteed lowest catagory inside, upgraded midship 4 decks higher. We have always gotten great upgrades.
By the way, don't know which Cruiseline you are thinking of booking on, but next Thursday March 9th, there is a 1 day only sale with Carnival book any catagory and get the highest available upgrade on the spot. Ask your travel agent about it. They will be able to preview the prices on Wednesday March 8th.
Yesterday I booked the Carnival Conquest going out of Galveston on Oct. 22. Would my TA be able to get this upgrade for me or am I out of luck?
I guess it won't hurt to ask!!
It won't hurt to ask, but you may have to cancel and have the TA rebook in order to get the sale; usually sales aren't retroactive. If you have booked a cabin guarantee, you have a chance of being upgraded, depending on how full the ship is when you sail. All a guarantee means is that you will get at least that category of cabin.
We went on a 4 day on carvinal Cruise and was upgraded from an oceanview room to a balcony suite. That was the nicest upgrade we ever had. We had a MBNA credit card and get Cruise points so we always book thur them.
We booked an inside guarantee on our upcoming April 19th Constellation cruise. We were delighted when our docs came and we were upgraded to an outside in a great location. I also booked an inside guarantee on our May cruise on the Zenith....we got a not-so-good location, still inside. So.........you never know.

I have found that Royal Caribbean and Celebrity don't usually upgrade from inside to outside or from outside to balcony. Maybe there are exceptions, but that seems to be their policy.
I think most cruise lines have that policy. The exceptions occur when the cruise is far from sold out, and I suspect (at least with Princess, which was my experience) that the earlier you book, the higher on the list you are for upgrade possibilities.
Well, I took a cruise in April of 2005 on Carnival and booked an inside gurantee room, hoping for that possible upgrade too. However, we did book ath the last minute and so the ship was "sold out", (or so we were told). and so we didn't get an upgrade at all. But I was advised to at least ask when checking in... never hurts to ask... But if they say no, at least try to get a little ways from the elevators, cause for us, it was a little noisy around them.
And if you don't, don't stress over it too much... we didn't do anything but sleep and shower in there anyhow, and the inside room was nice and dark for good sleep!
