I am not even sure if this is the right place to ask this. Has anyone done a northern europe cruise? we are thinking about doing one in 2011. anyone has any ideas for this.

We've done a couple... Norwegian Fjords/North Cape on Celebrity Century in 2007 and Celtic Kingdoms/British Isles on HAL Prinsendam just last month. These do tend to be port intensive. Our Norway cruise was 12 nights/7 ports, Celtic Kingdoms was 14 nights/12 ports. The scenery and history was spectacular on both.

What are some of the ports you have in mind?

I wanted to go to like poland, holland, denmark and I would love to go to st petersburg if I am not dreaming too much. I really really want to do this. The port intensive cruise is probably what i would want to do. I am afraid it would be a one time thing for me so I would want to see all I can.

That itinerary is actually called the Baltic cruises. Several cruise lines do the Baltic. I did the Baltic twice with Celebrity on the Century. Great ship. Both times I left out of Amsterdam which is a great city. It then went to Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg, Tallin, and Copenhagen. Other itineraries and cruise lines may stop at Poland and Warmamunde, Germany for Berlin.
