I noticed that cruise ships seem to have the same names of decks from ship to ship and cruiseline to cruiseline and I was wondering if the decks were the same for all ships. Example promenade is deck 5 on one ship but is it the same on others same for lido deck.

Thank you.

Deck names tend to be the same or at least "standard" through the industry, but the deck # of a given name is not the same from ship to ship in the same line even. Example given-CCL Spirit and Conquest. The Promenade deck is deck 5 on the conquest and deck 2 on the Spirit. Both contain the same functions (casino, lounges etc) but are at different levels of the ship. And I'm sure there are names that are line oriented too (Like the Empress deck on CCL ships being "named" for the first CCL ship)

Jim is spot on (IMHO) with his answer about the decks and their names.

The first Carnival ship was named Mardi Gras.
Her original name was Empress of Canada.

The second Carnival ship was named Carnivale.
Her original name was Empress of Britain.

Hence these classic liners are honored by having a deck named for them
