I have to book a flight to Florida from Ottawa, Canada in Dec (for a cruise of course). I was hoping to get input on which US airline is most reliable and which airport is user friendly. My choices are Northwestern (connecting in Detroit) and US Airways (connecting in Philadelphia). Does anyone have comments on the airline or city?

Perhaps you are referring to Northwest airlines. I think they are the nations second or third largest carrier.

Here are the latest on-time percentages:
Carrier Number of Airports Reported
Percentage of Arrivals/ On Time
US AIRWAYS 25 / 77.4
AMERICAN 28 / 75.4
CONTINENTAL 26 / 75.0
SOUTHWEST 13 / 73.4
UNITED 28 74.0
DELTA 28 72.7
NORTHWEST 27 / 72.

If you want more destinations, or connecting points you can simply check with the airlines.

To what cruise port are you flying?

You could always try Westjet or AC that connect in Toronto
westjet goes to FLL though

We are leaving out of Port Everglades. It will cost me $200-300 more per person to connect through Toronto or Montreal. Total of $809 Cdn for 2 people on US Airways (via Philadelphia) VS $1327 Cdn for 2 people on Westjet (via Toronto).
That is a huge difference. So flying Air Canada or Westjet is not an option. Besides, if I go via a US city I think I go through customs in my home town (Ottawa) which is the easiest because I check my bags right through to Florida. Flying via Toronto I have to collect bags to go through customs.

How long are the connections in each airport? That would help make the decision for me. The longer the better, particularly if you will have to go through Customs along the way on either trip.

Along with connect time, another consideration may be that it's less likely to be snowy in Philadelphia in December than it is in Detroit.

Both excellent points that I need to consider. Freezing rain and snow delays are a deffinate possibily in both Ottawa and Detroit at that time of the year.
We are flying a day ahead but a storm can take a day to clear an area. I will also check the conection times.
