5k Race Excursion

I'm a runner. I think it would make a good excursion for a 5k Race on an island. It could be a point system competition amoung the Cruise Lines and Cruise Ships.

I see it like this. Make it $30, $5 goes to a local charity, most races have a charity and this helps us runners do it. you get a point for your ship and cruise line to enter, a point to finish, a point for everyone you finish ahead of. 5 points to win, 3 points for 2nd 1 point for 3rd for best male and female runner.

I can see it needing 2 guides on bicycles one to lead and one to follow. If it is a big race (20 plus people) a third guide to roam. Water and a drink at the end. A small daily trophy and a running total each month.

I think it would be fun. And I get to run safely on an island rather than accidentally run into an unsafe section of town, like I did in St Thomas. A mile from the port it got pretty seedy.

So am I crazy or not? Do people want to do this on vacation?

Oh yea and charge a fiver to go watch, covers the transportation and the drink

It sounds like a fun idea. I'd walk since I don't run, but it would be a great way to safely see the islands as well as help a charity. Since you daughter works for Carnival, maybe she could drop it into a suggestion box.

Yes, I thought it was a good idea too. I moved the topic here to get more exposure. Some fellow cruisers from our roll call recently on Carnival, did the Breast Cancer walk on the ship. Even the ones that didn't walk made contributions.

I figure if someone will run or walk for a good cause, they deserve our support. I am all for trying to get this idea in some fashion in front of all the cruise lines.

On both the Emerald Princess and the Mediterranea, they had the walk for Breast Cancer. I was extremely grateful to see this. I really like the idea of doing it on the islands as well, for a local charity. I would just pray that the funds would go where they are targeted to go, and not in someone elses hands.

The Destiny had the On Deck for the Cure also. My wife and I both walked. It wasn't the race I wanted but a good idea. I was glad to see it. We had about 50 people walk. I was one of about 4 guys participating. I understand that this was the first such event on the Destiny in a long time. A new CD, Darcy, was the mover to bringit back. I applaud her.
