a very interesting poll. Thanks for posting it!

Personally, I usually wear a dark suit (no tuxedo, though) on formal nights.

Wait! I'm both! Formal for me means nice dress, by which I do not mean spangly prom dress/evening gown, AND dress shirts for men. And a jacket. Hopefully.

I wear a suit every day. If I brought a suit on a cruise I would never go. I am not dying to see men dressed like it's a workday, either.

But I am also and avoid the dining room person!!! If I'm tired from a day on shore I am not going to go to formal night.

It's easier for women. We wear dresses half the time anyway.

Great poll.

We almost always bring the tuxedos/gowns. And, we stay dressed that way throughout the formal evenings rather than change after dinner.

But it doesn't bother me if the person next to me interprets formal night differently, as long as s/he is presentable (or at least makes the attempt ).

Great poll!!

Never done a tux, always a dark suit.

My husband always wears a dark suit, but I have a red tuxedo (wow) and I love to wear it.
But I have no evening gowns only some nice blouses and nice trousers, some really elegant.
I love to dress up for formal night and we never have been in the selfservice restaurant for dinner.Itīs okay for breakfast and lunch, but not for dinner. We love the athmosphere and the service in the dining room.

In the past I have always taken my tux and a dark suit. The tux was for the first formal night and the suit for the second formal. However, my tux has strangely shrunk over the years and no longer fits well. I had no idea dry cleaning would cause this <ahem>. Since I just went out and bought several new suits I think I'll ditch the tux and just take suits with me for future cruises. I just couldn't find a good enough reason to buy a new tux.

Dave, it's a well-known fact that the sea air shrinks formal wear and all other cruise attire. Worst yet, it's contagious, as it has spread to the rest of the clothing in my closet.

Thanks for voting and replying all - it's intersting the way it's shaping up

And lol Lisa and Dave, that's why my fancy dresses don't always fit me anymore!

Carla, I like your point ... most people I've seen tend to go all in or not, but you seem to go with the flow.

According to my doctor, there are no calories in international waters. The problem is those calories tend to find their way home once we hit the American pier.....
