Holland American has recently added the Sonoran port of Guaymas to it's Sea of Cortez sailings. An article in the Arizona Daily Star business section also tells of the builing of a port facility in Puerto Penasco (also known as Rocky Point to those of us in Baja Arizona) to be completed in three years. This port will be the departure point for 4, 5 and 7 day sailings in the Sea of Cortez. An airport in Puerto Penasco airport is expected to open in the spring in anticipation of cruisers. According to the story, Mexican and Sonoran officials plan to approach other cruise lines to "... compliment the service offered by [HAL]..." It's nice to see more options for western residents.
Many years ago Princess used to port at La Paz and Guaymas, and farther South at Manzanillo on longer Mexican Riviera cruises. It's good to see HAL opening up this market again, especially, as susanmaz points out, for us left-coasters who hate flying.
When we were in Rocky Point about 3 yrs ago, they said that a cruise ship pier and new airport were going to be built. It is great, that it is finally going to happen. Yes, it will be great for us on the west coast, especially for us here in Phoenix, Arizona. Lil' Lori
