Will I need a passport to go to Mexico and Grand Cayman Islands?

Starting January, 2008, yes.

But even now it's a really good idea to have one.

I assume you are talking about cruising there. If flying then yes.

We did'nt get passports, but they asked for birth certificates at check in, I did'nt get those either. We had to fill out a statement that we were citizens. At least get your birth certificate.

I totally agree with what everyone says. If you are going to be doing any significant traveling in the next few years, you definitely should get a passport. MUCH easier. And really easy to download the application and sites for pics and processing. Look at it this way...you're making a contribution to the U.S. State Dept!! Well now wait a minute...I just paid my taxes! Nevermind.

sahuaru, I'm shocked you were not turned away at the pier. Without a birth cert they are supposed to, and usually do deny boarding. I've never heard of anyone being allowed to board with a signed statement.

Anyone reading this, please get a passport. If you choose to sail this year without one you WILL need a birth cert (no photo copy, no hospital copy) with a raised state seal. You'll also need a Gov't issued photo I.D. (Driver's license, military I.D., green crad, etc.) if you don't have passport. For children just birth cert until 2008. If you have to fly to Vancouver or any foreign port to board a passport is already a requirement.

I know before 9/11 they would take a signed statment, but I am very surprised they accepted a statement now. Consider yourself very fortunate. The best form of citizenship is a passport. Everyone should get one now.

Ok so i am traveling with 2 16 year old girls and a 11 year old boy..

I called RC they said not necessary for any of us to have passports yet.. we can use birth cert and photo id's or ss card for little one.. But this makes me so nervous.. i think i am still going to get passports.. going to file next week that gives me 11 weeks to get them back
