Western caribian out of Galviston

Do you see any down side to booking there other than booked up or not through the cruise line? I don't want to become a resident of the Islands

You are quite safe doing your own excursions on Cozumel and Grand Cayman. For Jamaica I recommend people stick with a ship's tour.

eb- I back up what Dave said. Both Cozumel and Grand Caymen are safe and even if you have to get back on your own (say something happens to the tour bus where it breaks down or something) both are small enough and have plenty of Taxis where you can get back to the ship without a problem.

The only exclusion to that would be if you tried to do a tour on the mainland Mexico from Cozumel. I have been there plenty of times and would still be concerned trying to do something like that as you have to do a ferry trip to get there.

We did too much in Alaska and missed the local stuff because we spent all our time on a bus or train getting to and from where-ever. We want to see the "must see" stuff as long as it leaves time to shop (my wife} and sit on the beach and snorkel (me). I will be looking much of the weekend to narrow it down.

Of the 3 ports, Cozumel is best for shopping. Grand Cayman is really expensive, Montego Bay - they are really agressive.
