We are leaving on cruise this saturday and I want to get my wife a surprise necklace sometime during this cruise.

I am wondering if the prices on the cruise or on shore will be that much cheaper/better than to get it here locally.

So, in your opinion, should i wait or go ahead and purchase it before we leave.

I Guess that depends on what islands you are touring, some have better prices that others

cozumel and progreso

I have been to Cozumel 7 times and Progresso once. Not much to buy in the way of fine jewelry in Progresso. Cozumel is another story. You will find several jewelry stores downtown, Diamonds International seems to be the most popular and the one reccomended by Carnival. My advice is shop around and don't be afraid to offer 30-40% of the asking price. Alot of the store clerks will ask you what Ship you are on and believe me, they know what time it sails and the prices get alot better as that time nears. I bought a tanzinite/Diamond ring for my wife in 2002 in Cozumel. i found the same ring in 6 differnt stores. The first price was 1500.00 at a shop when we first got off the ship. we found it at others each time making them go lower. We bought the ring at the first place we saw it 15 minutes before we were to be back on the ship for drum roll........ 375.00. hope this helps!

Carinval will meet any price (for the same ite) that you find on shore.

If you buy on shore I would go to one of the shops that the cruise line recommends. Unless you know the shop and what you are buying is for real you can get burned real bad. Carnival will guarantee what you buy at the shops they are pushing.

My wife has gotten jewlery from both the ship and on land...St. Thomas had the best selection of gold jewlery...Cozumel was a good second...
Diamonds International is on some of the ships and you will get the same price.....The ship does run sales during your cruise....We've bought gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and they have been a good buy and good quality...the ships does recommend some stores, and you do have a guarantee at those stores...
Happy Sailing and Good Shopping...

Unless it is something special, and truly unique on the ship or the islands, you will most likely get a better price here in the U.S. on the main land. Buy it and take it with you.

No wife will go along with that idea....they want to SPEND while on the cruise....that's part of the reason to go.....but it was a GREAT idea:-).....

Our first cruise my husband brought a swarski crystal heart necklace with him. One night he got a bottle of champaigne and ask the bar tender for two champaigne glasses then took me on deck with the most beautiful full moon overhead you ever saw. Now picture the romance of this. He opened the bottle, poured us both a glass and then presented me with the necklace and expressed his love and happiness in having me as his wife. I will tell you that moment was so romantic and forever will be in my heart as the best night ever. The next cruise he bought on board a pair of earrings to match..so just wanted to let you know you are going to make a lasting memory for her and a WHOLE lot of brownie points for you.
