Cruising the caribbean in August - safe?

Is it safe to cruise in the Caribbean in August since it is hurricane season? I see that throughout August, the prices for cruises to this area tend to drop...is that because of the weather?

August 05 - The ship rock most of the night. We stop in Nassau - It was rain and wind all day - a hurricane was out there some where. We took a tour around the Island. That night it was very rough on the water. The ship rocked so much. (you didn't want anything to eat).

August 06 - We were to go to Nassau, Coco Cay and Keywest. The hurricane was on it's way. After bording the ship - we were told the ship was going to Cozumel - so we would have two days at sea.

I'm not sure I will be doing another August cruise. When I book my cruises - I'm really wanting to go to the ports I picked, not somewhere else.

Have sailed the caribbean in both August of 04 and 05 and did not have a problem. They do aviod bad weather. So as DSR pointed out if you are sheduled to do an eastern caribbean cruise and there is a hurricane chances are you will be doing a western caribbean cruise.
