I am a first time cruiser and going on the NCL Dream (with my Family & friends). I wanted to know just how pricey are the drinks on board and When do you pay for them.

The cruise lines like to push the drinks in the souvenir cups which cost more. You can order the same drink for cheaper by asking for it in in a regular glass. Unless you like the souvenir glasses ofcourse.

You are not allowed to bring your own alcohol on board either. But if you just use a little bit of imagination…vodka could magically appear in the water bottles, etc.

I also noted that if you re-board the ship very close to the departure time from the port and bring on board alcohol purchased on shore, due to the lack of time, they don’t confiscated. This happened to me in St. Thomas this November.

Straight from my invoice from our OCt 2006 cruise on the Dream. The frozen drink specials in the souvenier glass 6.90 (including tip) I was drinking Segrams 7 and 7Up at the wet bar and those were $4.54 Black Russians were 6.33 and I see several sports bar charges at 6.04.. so you can judge from there. My warning to yo uif you have kids. DO NOT ORDER a "kiddie cocktail" or a Shirley Temple for the kids. Despite they being only 7up with Cherry juice, we were charged for 4.03 each (a virgin cocktail price) They had ordered them at least twice before we saw a detailed bill. Tell them to stick to plain sodas. On CCL, those drinks were considered the same as a soda, so we never thought twice... just remember to look at your receipts each time so you don't get surprised.
