Cheap one-way flights

Hi folks,

i need your help: We are planning to go on a tour on our own by rental car through Ontario, Vermont, New Hampshire and Quebec prior to our Canada/ New England Cruise from New York. Now we need a reasonably priced one- way- flight from Montreal to New York. I was shocked about the fares on Air Canada (about 420 US$ altogether), which are extremely expensive comparing to Europe. Are there any other possibilities?

You are stuck in one of the insanely high airfare zones- I know so many people who decide to drive from where I am (40 minutes from Toronto) to Quebec because the airfare is so high. I will check around for you but you might do better driving back.

I just checked with Amtrak: there's a direct train from Montreal to New York which runs close to ten hours. The current standard fare is US$ 136 for the two of you.

Thank you Raoul, that is a great idea. I never took a train during my visits in the U.S. or Canada before, but it sounds as it is a great alternative. Although i'm an experienced driver, i do not look forward to drive in Downtown New York City, i would cause a big traffic jam there

I've checked out CanJet, but it seems they only have one daily connection between Toronto and NY- La Guardia on Friday and Sunday.

Carla, thank you also. Maybe you can find another alternative for me. By the way: Are the incredibly high airfares a result of the merger between Air Canada and Canadian Airlines a couple of Years ago, as there is no more competition?

I normally have the most success with one way fares when I purchase them as far out as possible.
