My husband and I are going to take our first cruise this spring. Probably in the Carribean or Mexico. We are both late 30s and would like a cruise with few children (I have children and work with children and just want a break) and not a lot of loud drunken partying. I'd also like good food and I don't want to feel like I'm staying in a floating Motel 8. However, there is always budget to consider. Any suggestions?

Hi Nocemom,
It is very subjective on what is "best". You will get twenty different answers talking to twenty different people. I highly recommend you find a local travel agency and speak with a cruise specialist. Based on your criteria you are describing a Premium or Luxury product. That means higher budget. I don't know any cruise line I would describe as a Motel 8. If you plan on traveling during Spring Break time there will be a lot of families traveling.

To me you sound like Princess or Holland America people. And of the two I think Princess is the best value for your cruise dollar. The ships are elegant, the ambiance is relaxed and the cuisine and the service are outstanding.

But Cruise Fanatic is right: this being your first cruise, you should explore all your options with a cruise specialist--and then book Princess.

My wife and I usually do not go the party route. I have never been on any ship were you could not find some nice quiet place to relax. If you want to party you can always find one, if not just relax.
I am with Cruise Fanatic, give your local TA a chance to help here. People are always telling me the "best prices" are on the net. My TA has always got us the best price and great service.

Due to my wife's work schedule, we can only cruise during school break times in Feb or April. We have found both RCI and Celebrity to be lines that fit that description even during these busy times. We have always found places to be that were quiet and/or without lots of distraction during the busiest of times.

I agree with Peter. Royal Caribbean is the way to go. I'm going in February on my fourth cruise with them. They accomodate all ages and all activities. "Happy Cruisin!"

I am a teacher so when our travel agent suggested a cruise for our 15th anniversary and my 40th birthday - we wanted a cruise that did not have a lot of kids. We went on Royal Caribbean. It was during spring break and Easter so there were a lot of kids - but less than the other cruises we have taken. The service and food was amazing!

My suggestion is you may want to consider a balcony room. We loved it and it was so relaxing! We watched the sun come up over Cozumel and we also sat out on the balcony at night watching for other ships - it was wonderful.
