What do you do with your passport when you go on excursions?

Do you keep it in the ship?

Do you keep it with you at all times? If you keep it with you, how do you go swimming?

We leave our passports on the ship, locked in the safe, for the duration of the cruise. When going ashore, we bring our driver licenses for ID to get back onto the ship. We also bring a photocopy of the first page of our passports in the very unlikely event that we run into trouble that would delay our return to the ship. But, the original passports are locked away.
