Trying to decide on the best Month to take a cruise of Austrailia/New Zealand. Have been warned off about hot weather & bugs but don't know exactly what that time is. I'm thinking January-March. Can anyone advise the best month for that cruise?
I don't know if it's the "best" month, but I cruised from Auckland to Sydney, leaving on February 7, and couldn't have asked for better weather. We had one day of rain, several overcast days, and the rest was clear and sunny and quite comfortable.
Thanks so very much for the info on your experience. We keep hearing from people that is it so very hot and miserable at that time of the year. We would leave on January 27th for a cruise from Auckland to Sydney and then do a 5 day land tour. We certainly don't want to go all that way and then be miserable with heat!
And in Sydney the average high in February is 25.7 C. or 78.26 F.
Hardly what I would call hot and miserable. I'm sure it is warmer in the interior and more humid in the Northeast; but we were struck by how similar the climate is to Southern California at that time of year.
As long as you're not going to northern or western Australia you should be fine. We do have some hot days at that time of year - anything up to 40 C. - but we usually only have a handful of the really hot ones each summer. You're more likely to encounter low to mid 30's C. I've been to New Zealand at that time of year and the weather was beautiful. A touch cooler than Australia.
AussieGirl, I like really hot weather, so which months would be good for that? Also, does the water ever get warm? I'd love to snorkel on the barrier reef, but hate being cold
Penny, If you like hot weather then Queensland's your best bet...lucky for you that's where the great barrier reef is!! January/February would probably be a good time for you (a little bit too hot and humid for me there at that time of year)...and yes the water is nice a warm, perfect for snorkeling
