There've been a # of posts on the policy of (and what you can usually get away with) packing/ bringing soda and beer (cans)/ bottles of water onboard; but they were a few months ago.
I'm going on RCC, Sovereign of the Seas in Sept, and would like to bring some various beverages to curb the overall cost. What's the current deal on this?
Also, if I do this, can I take my "can of Coke" out of my room? How 'bout my "Lite Beer"? Suggestions? (Pour into souvenir cup?).
First cruise, so THANKS!
Nancy
PS - Room only has mini-bar; any tips on keeping cans cool?

in the past i've smuggled snacks on board to curb my costs also. i'm not super cheap but i refuse to pay $2 for a can of soda or bottled water. : ) i havent cruised in two yrs as i've taken timeshare resort stays but i have up coming cruises in february and april 2004 and plan to continue with the 'smuggling'. i usually have chips, candy bars, sodas, h20, a power strip(with the curling iron, battery chargers, shaver, mini dvd player, etc that power strip came in handy) ,etc. sure my table mates laughed at me the first night when i showed up with my can of coke but by mid cruise they were asking me if i had extras and what else did i have. : ) my husband, who has to lug the large suitcase with all this 'contraband' complains but then when he gets to the gift shop and sees you just about have to give your right arm for a snickers bar, he gladly pulls that luggage. : ) i always have a food luggage and a linen luggage(that's a whole other story) when i travel. : ) sp up are not alone with the snack smuggling.
Don't think you are "smuggling"...they x-ray every thing you bring on board and everytime you stop in a port you have to put everything thru the x-ray machine upon reboarding..so they know what you are bringing aboard. I cruised on RCCL Brilliance in Feb-Mar. and my table mates brought 12 packs of beer in cans bought at port and were able to board no problem. I drink almost exclusively water, when we docked in Key West I picked up two12-packs of bottled water and walked aboard with these no problem. They do take hard liquor and wine at the gangway..they give it back at the end of the cruise.
maine-iac -- so it sounds like canned beer and soda, although xray'd, s/b OK? I'm not asking for guarantees, just odds
Thank, Nancy
