Are there buffets for some meals? If yes, does anybody know if the desserts are kosher?

You do not mention which cruise line, but as a general rule you will find you can get every meal via buffet on most of the larger mass market cruise ships (RCI, Princess, HA, Carnival, etc). But, I do not think the buffet food is anymore Kosher than the food in the dining rooms. Some cruise lines can provide Kosher food in the dining rooms, but its generally pre-packaged frozen dinners (not very good). Most of our Kosher friends find that they must compromise when they travel (especially on ships) and tend to stick with sea food offerings. But, for those who want to maintain a strick Kosher diet....I think they are basically out of luck.

Hi Barfe and welcome to Cruise Chat.

The regular menus and the buffets have lots of fish (non-shellfish) and vegetarian choices that should fit the bill. As Hank mentioned, you can order kosher meals but you'll do better ordering off the regular menu.

There are companies like Kosherica that specialize in kosher cruises, where they do serve kosher food on the whole cruise. You can search on the internet. I have no experience with Kosherica and do not endorse them in any way, but I have seen their ads.

One note, if you intend to adhere to a strict Kosher diet you'll have to have a specail needs from, fill it out and send it to the cruise line well in advance of the sailing date. They need time to order supplies for the ship and this includes any special dietary requirements. With most lines 90 days notice is required but with a few, 6 months prior is the deadline.

Plan ahead and book early if you have any special needs, either physical or dietary.

Cheers, Neil
