In general the aft cabins are very much sought after because they usually have larger balconies (and I don't mean just the suites) and the views are spectacular, especially if you are on a corner. The suites have no effect on the view of the standard cabins. And on some ships, notably Princess Grand Class ships, the aft balconies are covered.
On the downside, some ships have a lot of metalwork on the aft which can partially obstruct the view; others have various kinds of equipment aft which can block part of the view. You really need a deckplan and photographs to know which decks to avoid.
Another thing to consider: when at sea the churn or wake of the ship makes a constant whooshing sound. Some of us love that sound--but not everybody does.
