My 16th birthday is coming up in January and ive decided i want to go on a cruise. I have been on 6 in my short lifetime. 1 being the big red boat and the other the celebration ship (carnival) I really cant remember the rest. Ive been to puerto rico,Bahamas,Jamaica, the US Virgin Islands and a few other places.

Ive been wanting to go to a foreign country such as Mexico now for a while. Can you help me pick a good cruise that might have several good things to do my age on the fun days at sea and some great historical/sight seeing trips at the destination!

Thanks

Hi StarWars117, Welcome to Cruise-Chat!

You might want to start by looking at Royal Caribbean and Carnival. You may also want to consider Disney. You are so lucky to have your parent or guardian allow you to pick your cruise. Since you have some time, take your time. One of our Administrators, Dave, happens to live near you. He probably has more insight about this, as he is the father of a teenager, and has been on many cruise lines.

Welcome aboard, and may the force be with you!

Dwayne

Cody,

The Holiday is the only ship currently using Mobile as a port. I happen to like the Holiday and will be aboard next month with some other staff members. I've done four cruises on the Holiday over the past few years.

While old, the Holiday provides a great cruise experience for not too much money. Do the 5-day version and you'll get two Mexican ports - Cozumel and either Playa del Carmen or Costa Maya. The Port Of Mobile is easy to get to and the staff is wonderful. It is 5 hours or so from Athens, so the drive is easy too.

StarWars, I have to agree with Dwayne on the lines, RCCL and Carnival are going to be the best fit for you at 16. I also agree with Dave that if you want something in driving distance, Holiday would be a great choice. If you want newer nicer ships with all the bells and whistles and the add'l cost of airfare is not a problem, the best values and newest ships are generally sailing from either Ft Lauderdale or Miami on 7 day sailings.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great cruise and it's everything you want from your 16th birthday. By the way, happy birthday and welcome to cruise-chat!

Cheers, Neil

Once you choose your cruise, go on line to the different websites (Cruisereviews,cruise-addicts, etc...) and find other 16 year olds that will be on the same cruise with you. Then you can get somewhat aquainted before you cruise and can also choose your shore excursions together. It will make for a much more pleasant cruise.
