I have read this in multiple places but can't wrap my brain around it. What all should I pack in my carry on for the cruise? I have heard to pack your bathing suit and towel in case it takes a long time to get your luggage. I read on another board that I should pack our dinner clothes just in case...that seems like alot of crap to pack up. I'm leaving this FRIDAY!!!! on my first cruise, so I appreciate your help as always...

Sunshine, you may want to check out the topic Cruise Do's and Dont's started by Frase. You can go to the "Find" section and look by topic or name of person. There were six pages of do's and dont's in there. Probably some of it can help with the carry on question. Hope this helps. Bon Voyage!! Have a great cruise!!
DON'T pack a towel! Unless you are driving to your port and have plenty of room, don't waste space with towels. They will provide them for you. (Just don't loose them or they will charge you for it) You get a beach towel per guest in your stateroom and as you use them they replace them with clean ones.
Now as for your original question- You mostly have it. Pack a change of clothes in case your luggage is lost or delayed in getting to your cabin. A bathing suit so you can hit the pool if you want before you get your luggage. Basically you need anything you may need for the few hours between getting on the ship and when your luggage gets from the dock to your cabin (typically by 6PM, but sometimes as late as 10PM) - Do you have prescription meds? If so, put those in there. WE also pack any valuables (jewelery, cameras, money/travelers checks, travel docs, etc...) I don't trust the airline baggage people with anything I consider of value. Especially when you can not lock anything anymore. Before the airline "liquids" restrictions, we would pack bathroom supplies (contact lense stuff, makeup, tooth paste, etc) but if you are flying, this stuff can be a hassle. If you are driving, do it, if flying, and they lose your luggage, you can get replacement stuff in the ship's store, so all is not lost.
So as you can see, you may need a carry on for each person.
Hope that helps.

And as for dinner clothes. Not really needed. Your luggage SHOULD be to your cabin before dinner. They say to carry them on just in case. But the dinning room will be full of people that are wearing what they came aboard in. Don't worry about it. I tend to pack a change of clothes more in case the airlines lose your bags. If they can't can' them to the ship before it leaves, then you can't get them until your first port stop. Its nice to have at least one extra day of clothing as a "buffer" (Of course if you have trip insurance, that's a great excuse to go clothes shopping in the dutie free shops on the ship on the Insurance companies dime.) That's why I said to pack the things you can't replace or HAVE to HAVE in the carry on.

Having had my luggage lost a few times, I always pack in my carry on, anything I would be heartbroken if it got lost. For a cruise, definately your bathing suit, if you want to sunbath the first day. Good luck Lil' Lori
we put one change of clothes, our medicines, camera and jewelry in our carry-on. That way if you luggage gets delayed (which never happened) you at least have a change of clothes and your meds. The jewelry, camera, etc., is a no-brainer. No one can get their hands on it between the terminal and plane, plane and ship, etc.
anywhere from 1 hours to 10 p.m. that night. As soon as the ship is clear of the passengers from the previous week's cruise, they start to bring the luggage on the ship and distribute it. I would think the earlier you get on the ship, the earlier you will receive your luggage but there is really no hard and fast system.
