Does anyone know of a good place to stop between Atlanta and Port Canaveral?

I will be getting married in GA on 4/21/07 and will be boarding the Mariner on 4/22/07 for our Honeymoon. We will be traveling by car from GA. We don't want to drive the whole way (about 8 hours) right after our reception because we know we will be very tired. However, we don't want to wait until the morning of the cruise to make the 8 hour drive...just incase something happens. So we were thinking of driving half way and stopping somewhere nice after we get married. We would then wake up the day of the cruise and only have to drive about 4 hours. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate it.

We used to stay in Valdosta, but that might not be far enough down for you. How about Jacksonville? Congratulations on your wedding and honeymoon!!

If I were doing this, I'd probably stop in St. Augustine, FL - where I75 intersects with I10, turn east to the coast and then south on I95. A lot of charming places there to stay and have dinner - what a way to spend that "first night" together!

Well it may be a tad out of the way, but have you considered Hilton head island, sc or Savannah GA ? It is beautiful and a very easy 4.5 hours drive to port canaveral. We make the drive often. Congrats on your upcoming marriage.

I second the suggestion of Hilton Head. It is absoutley beautiful there. It is a little out of the way, but very much worth it. Also, we have stayed in Daytona Beach on our way down. We don't stay right on the beach when we are traveling down. A couple of weeks ago, we stayed at a very nice Comfort Suites and it was very reasonable there. The next morning we drove down to the beach. Congratulations!

Hilton Head is a great idea. I have driven through Hilton Head but have never stayed there. How far out of the way do you think it would be? Is Daytona between Atlanta area and Port Canaveral?

I just realized that I never specified which port we would be using . Sorry about that. We will be going to Port Canaveral.

I live near Hilton Head and know for a fact that it is a 4.5 hour drive to port canaveral. I however have never been to Atlanta so you would have to see how far of a drive it is to Hilton Head. I do not believe it is that long of a drive, my neighbor often does day trips for business. Good luck !

It is 280 miles from Atlanta to Hilton Head and the estimated driving time is 4.5 hrs.
