Shops onboard

Do cruise ships own the shops onboard, or is the space leased to an outside company? Are they all owned by the same company? It seems that no matter what cruise line I am on the items and pricing are all the same.

Hi,

the shops are often run by third-party operators (as are spas, casinos etc.). There are several companies out there offering these services.

Isn't also amazing that the shops in Mexico or on the islands also have the same items and pricing? In Cancun a vendor was trying convince me that a Mexican blanket was handmade by his grandmother. I told him that she must be very fast and busy because I seen the same blanket in at least 15 other shops. He then said that he has a large family. It is all in fun and part of the experience.
