Keep it going GC. Two days running now, I have been linked to threads that have been closed. Not sure that's a winning streak or something to be proud of, just a fact.
Somewhere on a thread here I read something about a drink called Irish Car Bombs. Guinness with a shot of Jameson? Not very tropical unless you put an umbrella and a wedge of pineapple in it. eech.
Wow, drinking seems to be a popular theme. carl, I enjoyed reading through those closed chat threads and was in one myself when it went down in flames. Being new I didn't notice Dave's last line on one and kept looking for the reply button! Took me way too long to figure out there wasn't one.
We don't take it lightly when we decide to close a thread. For better or worse, it is often up to the discretion of a staff member - usually Raoul or me since we seem to spend the most time in the forum, although the other staffers have the power.
We try very hard to be fair, and in most cases a thread is closed because it 1) has nothing to do with cruising, 2) has become contentious, 3) violates the basic forum rules about attacks, insults, advertising, or 4) is just plain stupid - such as the threads I closed about getting drunk and sneaking grain alcohol aboard the ship. Of course we always try to maintain a "G" rating around here too - with some minor variances to account for the usual things one encounters on a cruise ship.
And as with many things, we also retain the right to intervene when we simply feel it is needed in order to "do the right thing" and to also maintain the dignity of cruise-chat.
