Price wise- yes it does go up, this is the big reason I agreed to take the kids out of school the week BEFORE Christmas.

Some people I work with were trying to put together a group for a New Years Cruise out of San Pedro--until they found out the cruise fare was, as Dave said, almost double what is was in early December or mid-January.
