I was wondering about renting a tux for the elegant nights on my upcoming cruise. For those of you who have rented one, how are they and are they worth the money?

Papa55,
I am not sure how often you cruise but we rented a few times and found out that you can buy a slightly used one for the same price as renting it once, about $100 or so. We were so surprised at how the TUX was almost new, even the formal shoes looked as if they were never even worn. Just an idea if you cruise a lot and like to dress us...they are called Formal Wear Direct. Other wise you can arrange to rent from Cruise Line Formalwear before you leave and it will be in your cabin waiting for you for about $100 or so depending on what you rent, we did that a few times and had no problems, Hope this helps you. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo.../icon_cool.gif

PaPa55 I have rented throught the cruise line on several occassions and have not had a problem with the rental. The last two cruises I have brought a nice dark suit and it was more than acceptable; seeing much less of the tuxes lately. If you are cramped for space the tux is an option. Hope this helps.

Noereaster too !

Papa55 I was referring to the latest weather that we have been experiencing here - Seems just right to be thinking of another cruise.

Papa55, we have rented from cruiseline formalwear and also through the cruiseline. The tuxes are nice. Only one time did we have a problem with a shirt and it was replaced before the formal night (they have spares on the ship).

Recently my husband found a tux with all the trimmings on sale for $100 and he bought that. The disadvantage is that now we have to pack it. The advantage is we save $100 per cruise.

Papa55 as a teacher (my wife works in the education field also) you get to work through the more expensive cruising times trying to find the best deals possible as we do so often.
