40th anniversary holiday ideas

Me and my wife are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and would like a relaxing holiday somewhere where we get to see a lot but also at a leisurely pace and with ample opportunity to escape the tour guide or scorching sun where necessary. We are interested in history and classical music and are not big into fitness (so please no hiking holiday ideas!)

Since this is a cruising forum, I'm sure you expect most or all of our suggestions to be that you take a cruise. A cruise would fit all of your above criteria. What time of year do you plan to travel? Are you interested in the Mediterranean? Alaska? Caribbean?

You should speak to an experienced travel agent who can ask you the appropriate questions about time, budget, and experience, and come up with some suggestions for you.

Congratulations on 40 years together

We celebrated our 40th on a cruise to Norway with Oceania last year it was great but not too much sun & heat (just the way I like it)

I would talk to a cruise specialist & see what ship fits your needs/wants

Hi josephsteve, welcome to CruiseReviews! My suggestion is a cruise, too Hawaii from LA immediately jumps into my mind. You said you like history and classical music, so a Med cruise would fit that bill. There is also a lot of history in the Caribbean, not much classical music though. I would also recommend a reputable travel agent, there are so many choices. It would sound like Cunard would be a good fit for you, but there are plenty of other lines.

What about a river cruise? Very relaxing and many go through some really historically interesting places – for example you could travel on the river Volga in Russia (biggest river in Europe).
