Apparently we should see more enforcement of a rule issued by the FAA a while back. It seems nothing but safety cards, barf bags, and inflight magazines are allowed in the seatbacks. No iPods, no water bottles, not even your boarding pass. Read about it here.

I think the reason stated in the number one position is the more valid one. They're making money off of luggage now, so people are trying to carry on more and more. I can see their point in turn around time, too. Flying used to be such a wonderful experience, now I dread it.

I think including boarding passes is a bit much. I always put mine there since it is easy to show it if an issue with seating assignments develops.

One thing that annoys me when I fly first or business class is they automatically put a blanket and pillow on the seat along with a bottle of water. I don't need any of it, yet now I have the hassle of either storing it or getting the FA's attention during boarding. So again, it often gets stuffed in the seatback.

I can see the safety side of it though.
