Can someone please explain SNUBA to me, and how is it different than BOB?

SNUBA is a cross between snorkeling and scuba diving. It allows you to snorkel underwater. Whereas BOB is an observation bubble that you ride, SNUBA is done by using gear similar to what you would use for snorkeling, but you breathe via a 20 ft. airline connected to a standard scuba tank that remains on the boat or platform above water. With BOB you breathe regularly and the air is pumped into the bubble.

So, do you get to move freely (or as freely as a 20 foot airline will let you)?

Is BOB the one where you walk along while holding onto a railing?

Yes, with SNUBA you move about freely on your own power. Perhaps these websites will help you better understand the difference:
www.cancunbob.com
www.snuba.com

Thanks for the info Nancy. I'm nervous, since I am not that great a swimmer, but I love snorkeling as long as I have a vest on. I am going to try SNUBA, I think. Now I just have to decide between St. Thomas and Barbados.

I hope you enjoy it. I thought it was great! I like to snorkel and know that I would never scuba dive, but this was a wonderful alternative. Unfortunately, I can't recommend either location as being better than the other since my experience was off a private yacht in the FL Keys.
