couple of questions on travelers checks and shopping

How generally accepted are travelers checks. I just realized all the money I'm bringing is in travelers checks save for a bit in ones and fives for tips and such. But do taxi's take them? local markets?
also when in a area that you can bargin on the price how's the best to do it. They state a price and go down by half then settle on the middle? just wondering. thanks

Hi Sheryl,
I would suggest that you take your traveler's checks as planned, but get some of them cashed at the bank (or guest relations desk) onboard the ship before heading off to shore. Most stores/restaurants, etc. will honor your traveler's checks, but they won't do you much good at paying for taxis, bargaining at the local craft markets, etc.

Is it true only Mastercard and Visa accepted On Lirica. I will be cruising on May 2nd. Also can granitudes be charged to ship account.

I heard they also charge 3% for cashing travelers checks. Can you buy Euros on board?

I find that by using a debit card I can not only get cash in the local currency where ever I am, but I also get the best exchange rate. That would be my suggestion rather than using travelers checks.
