Are passports required for all cruises now? If so, how long does it usually take to get one? Thanks!

Look at my Passport FAQ. Wait times can vary, and you can pay extra to extradite things. Those questions can only be answered at the State Department website, which you will find in my FAQ.

I have a passport renewal question that is not answered on the .gov site. Maybe an experienced traveler knows the answer?

I will need a visa for an upcoming Rio-Barcelona cruise in 2010. My passport will have less than two years left on it by the time I need to send it in to get the Visa. The cost for the visa and the visa service is over $200 the visa is good for five years. Can I renew my passport before getting the visa so that I can take advantage of the entire five years on a single passport?

They won't care if you renew it early. The State Department even recommends renewals 9 months before expiration. In fact they'll probably like it since it means more money in fees, and also it will mean you get the new passport with a chip in it.
