Do you mean an actually cruise ship in the sense of the big mega ships, or cruise ship as in paddle wheel ship?

I think Commodore.

I concur with Cruise Fanatic. The Enchanted Seas operated by Commodore was doing year round cruises before Carnival's Tropicale. (I think).

I went on the Celebration out of New Orleans in 1998. In 1987 I went on a 16 day Panama Canal cruise on the Bermuda Star which later became one of the Enchanted Isle for Commodore.

In the summer of 1998, I went on the Enchanted Capri weekender cruise and in 1999 on the Enchanted Isle seven night cruise. I remember seeing the Celebration docked behind the Enchanted Isle then. I'm trying to locate info on first cruise liners (not paddlewheelers)to be homeported in New Orleans--as early as 1980s. Went on Fantasy out of Miami in 1991 and now it homeports in New Orleans.

Of course it won't be much longer until Fantasy moves to Mobile and is replaced by the Triumph.

Let's not forget the Holiday and Conquest both sailed out of New Orleans later. I was on a 4nt inaugural on the Conquest. We all held our breath as we went under the electrical wires. The Conquest's stack barely made it! NCL and RCI both have had ships in there also. Great port to sail from!!
