I ran across this article and thought it might be of interest. Cruise lines were pressed into service for the Summer Olympics in Athens, so now it's Jacksonville's turn:
Cruise ships turning into hotels for Super Bowl
When the lack of luxury hotel rooms turned into the greatest obstacle the city faced when giving a bid for the Super Bowl, Jacksonville was able to convince the NFL to use cruise ships for additional rooms. The Radisson Seven Seas Navigator and the Carnival Miracle are two of five ships being used to add 3,667 floating hotel rooms, housing about 6,400 people. “It was a creative solution to what some saw as an insurmountable challenge,” Mayor John Peyton said Tuesday at a news conference on the Navigator in the Seven Seas Show Lounge. Some NFL corporate guests have snubbed the ships’ rooms because of cramped quarters. Still, all ships will be filled to capacity come Sunday. (USAToday.com)
