I have had a blood clot in my leg so I have to take a shot before I board my flight returning home so what identification/paperwork do I need so I can fly and board the ship with my medicine? I need to be able to keep it with me. I can't afford for it to get lost.

You should be okay if you keep your medicines in their original packaging and a copy of your perscription. A note from your doctor would not hurt either.

Look HERE for TSA rules. Although it says labels aren't required I'd have the prescription with me.

The rules are the same for the ship. They'll need to screen the syringes as part of your carry-on luggage.

For the TSA checkpoint, make sure you keep your syringes separate from your 3-1-1 bag. You also should notify the officer at the entry to the x-ray machine that you have syringes for medical reasons.

Just another idea, I ve had same problem with blood clots in past...did your Dr. tell you to wear elastic hose, or better Jobst stockings? Also, you can ask for bulkhead seats, if not in Business, and take carry on that you can put your leg up on...I ask for this seat for medical reason, may have to pay extra ,but worth it.Re;I assume heparin shots,,,do bring on up to date record of recent blood tests for ships Dr.,just in case....I m a retired RN and always like to think ahead, and hope for best.Good luck...

I also travel with several medications because of a medical condition, but no syringes. I keep all of my medications in their original container with the prescription label, and in a clear ziplock bag (not my 3-1-1 bag). The 3-1-1 bag is for liquids, which I also have when I go on short trips. Look at the link that Dave provided to the TSA website, as that is really an informative website as to what you can and cannot bring onboard.

Alexandra..yes I do wear Jobst stockings, and my doctor just wants me to take my Arixtra shots just in case. I also have to get up every hour and walk on the airplane or write the alphabet with my foot to help with the blood flow in my leg. This is also good advice for anyone who has a long flight whether or not you have had a blood clot because even a healthy person can obtain a blood clot from sitting on a flight and not moving around. Sorry, just putting my two cents in!

I know this is a bit off topic but...

what's a 3-1-1 bag? I apologize ahead of time if this is something I should know. LOL

Chence, 3-1-1 is just a way to remember what the restrictions are for carrying liquids onto an airplane in the U.S.

3-oz or smaller containers, in a
1-quart clear plastic bag, and you're allowed
1 of those bags to be carried on.

Here is the link to the TSA site explaining 3-1-1.
