It is all over the news and I'm sure some of us are thinking about. This is a terrible thing and seems to be getting worse by heading toward land and the ports. Anyone know how the cruise lines are going to deal with it, or if it will effect any sailings?

That's a good question Dwayne. I was wondering the same thing. It is tragic in so many ways. I hope they can get it contained before the environmental damage is beyond repair. I also think about the fishermen in that area whose livelihood may be affected and pray for the people who were injured or killed on the rig and their families.

This is the latest from Carnival here.

Thanks Cruise Fanatic, that is the advisory I was waiting on today. I guess I should have named this topic with "Spill" instead of "Leak". I'll post the Advisory in the Carnival section as well.
What a mess and tragedy this is in so many ways as Nadine noted. This is going to have far reaching environmental and economic effects on the areas impacted. I love and have a huge respect for the ocean, marshes, and the wildlife that lives in them. That's why I live where I do. Heck, I get upset if I see a carpet cleaning van emptying into a storm drain that goes into the marsh. I hope and pray they can get it contained. Dwayne |
I heard a report today, that sadi they are still finding oil from the Exxon Valdez spill in AK in 1989. This spill now dwarves that one and it continues to grow and there is no way to know when it will stop. There will certainly be fuel surcharges, the question will become, what happens when this monster hits the gulf stream?
|
I guess this is something we'll have to keep a close eye on. They think this may hit the Atlantic Ocean, so we'll have to keep an eye on the Florida embarkation ports (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral) to see if it has an impact on that.

The oil leak has already reached Louisiana shores and continues to spread. Some people are speculating that this could end up as one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history. Lets pray that they can cap the leak and prevent any more oil from spewing into our Gulf. When I think about what's happening I get that sick feeling in my stomach.

How much more can the people of Louisiana take? It seems they just get on their feet from one thing and another disaster strikes. I really feel for those folks.

Here is a link that provides other links to updated information on the spill.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the latest fix keeps working.
