My husband and I have never taken a cruise and we would like to go to the Mexican Riviera. By the way we will have our 12 year old daughter going as well. We are on a pretty tight budget due to the economy. I started doing some investigating and found NCL - Norwegian Sun and Pricess Cruise Line - Sapphire Princess, both with resonable rates. But upon further investigation it seems they both have there pros and cons. It seems NCL charges for everything (according to reviews) and Princess has quite an elderly following ( according to revies).

Pleas Help!!! Which one do I pick and keep in mind were fairly young have a 12 year old, we don't want to dress up and I guess were kinda cheap. Or Maybe Carnival????

Welcome to cruise-chat. You really need to sit down and talk with a cruise oriented Travel Agent. They will ask you questions to better qualify you which cruise line fits your life style.

Based on what you've said here though it does sound like NCL or Carnival would be a good fit for you. NCL is Freestyle for dinner and dress which sounds like it meets your needs.

All cruise lines have added expenses. Gratuities, drinks & coke, shore excursions, spa treatments, gift shops, bingo, photos, to name a few. All cruse lines have pros and cons. This is why it would benefit you to talk with a Travel Agent.

The Mariner of the Seas just started doing the Mexican Riviera this year. She is one of the largest ships in the world and one of my favorite ships - It even has an ice skating rink!

Also loved Mariner - one of our favorite ships -as far as price - we're always looking for a good deal and have found them on all most lines - agree that Princess and Holland cater to older folks - Carnival has the best bang for the buck (in my opinion) Check out vacationstogo.com for good deals.

I want to take a cruise on the Freedom of the Seas. Soon it will be the replacement for the Mariner / Seas at Port Canaveral.

We did this cruise with Princess & there was a wide range of ages on board it was in Oct. so not exactly school holiday but there seemed to be quite a few on board.
Plus the food is better than NCL

I would agree. While the average age on some of the longer Princess cruises is older (I sure wouldn't call it "elderly"), I've been on many 7 day Mexican Riviera cruises and there are always lots of young adults and children.
