It is a very personal decision, but my wife and I after trying Personal Choice Dining on Star Princess to Alaska last year have vowed to stay with traditional dining. We found PC Dining to be very impersonal. Different wait staff every meal and they just didn't seem to care the same. There was no chance to build a rapport with them and apart from one they made no effort whatever to show interest in us.
Equally we enjoy the opportunity to get to know other cruisers over the course of many meals. PC Dining on a table larger than just the two of you forces you into superficial small talk that doesn't get the chance to develop further. We have yet to have any table companions that we didn't get on with and positively look forward to meeting more on future cruises.
So yes it is a personal choice, but we would only sail again on Princess if we could be guaranteed Traditional Dining. Apart from PC Dining I have to say that we had a wonderful Alaskan cruise with them. In particular the Alaskan Wildlife lecturer on board was superb.
